we have 90,000 students at the city college in san francisco. half of them are actually learning english as a second language because san francisco is an entry point for immigrants. and so, often we encourage immigrants to learn english and become citizens and without those courses at the city college they would not have those opportunities. so it is actually critical that we make sure that that institution is funded and that it is protected and that it is fiscally accountable. and we need to make sure that they are teaching classes like the solar class that i helped to advocate for. we now have classes at the campus to learn how to install solar on people's roofs because of the great system that we have here in san francisco. >> you touched on the immigrant community and this is a question from the audience. governor brown vetoed both the trust act and the domestic workers bill last week, how did you feel about those pieces of legislation. >> i was disappointed. i mean one of the issues that we have debated here in san francisco was directly wh

different but otherwise it was a tremendous weekend and there is probably about a thousand port and city staff that need to be thanked. many of them posted themselves at the waterfront all weekend long and several with the real estate division and here today so you know who are you and thank you for that and as well as our maritime division that worked around the clock and homeland security division that worked around the clock so we are appreciative of all the work that went into this and we look forward to doing it again next year so thank you everyone for that. lastly i just want to take a few minutes to recognize frank alito that passed away. he was worn to the fisherman wharf's area in 1929 and he passed away earlier this month on october 2. frank and his brother had business arrangements throughout fisherman's wharf and not on port property but they were a fixture in the area. frank went galileo high school and went to the war and when he came back they opened the family business and opened up the alito fare restaurant and a dining room known as the captain's cabin and later went i

what other steps should the city take to make pension and health care benefits for city workers more sustainable? mr. everett, miss olague and miss selby? >> i have been engaged on this issue as a community service, i host a radio and tv program called "folk law for ordinary folk," it's a very tough one in the sense that workers at some point are essentially giving up higher salary and higher pay in exchange for those pension benefits. so to come back later on and essentially cut that out from under them, the question is one of fairness and of equity. that being said, as far as police and firefighters, obviously those are public safety areas and it's a little bit different in the sense that we definitely need to protect those pensions in a different manner than we do others. as far as other ways to save, i would certainly look at capping pensions moving forward, so that they don't increase incrementally over time. i think we need to put a cap on that now before it starts to burgeon and get out of control. >> thank you. >> miss olague. >> i believe i was one of the individuals who ans

these are monitored by several different city departments. all the city departments have conducted site visits to the restaurant. the police department's had several complaints filed with them for a variety of issues related to noise of patrons and employees usually after the hours of midnight. the police department has investigated these complaints but has no ongoing issues with the tenant. the planning department has conducted visits based on noise and hours of operation. on those we found no violation on these conditions of approval. staff noticed though outdoor activity was open windows were open onto activity area, that may be contributing to some of the noise in the outside area. the department of public health received one complaint in late june. it was regarding patron noise. the department of public health only enforces the san francisco noise ordinance, which applies to fixed equipment noise. however, they did do a site visit and performed measurements on the rooftop and found the equipment is in compliance with san francisco noise
